Aquamarine is a blue variety of beryl. Beryl is a relatively rare silicate mineral, found in igneous and metamorphic rocks in many parts of the world. Clear yellow beryl, such as that occurring in Brazil, is sometimes called aquamarine chrysolite. The deep blue version of aquamarine is called maxixe. Maxixe is commonly found in the country of Madagascar. The mines in Brazil, Colombia, Zambia, Madagascar, Malawi, United States, Tanzania and Kenya produce aquamarine.
