Jadeite is formed in metamorphic rocks under high pressure and relatively low temperature conditions. It has a hardness of about 6.5 to 7.0 depending on its composition.
Due to human's aggressive mining of Jadeite and rising economies over the past decades, the price of the raw Jadeite rocks (known as Jadeitite) and polished jadeites have rose more than dozen times as the demand for it far exceeds its supply.
